ONGTEH · REFERENCE SYSTEM

Tea identity, without the confusion.

One searchable register connecting tea leaves, botanical ingredients, processing styles, growing regions and cultural preparations. Names that look similar are not always the same kind of thing.

Editorial identity register · version B19

143 records, not 143 plant species.

This index joins 104 Tea Atlas profiles and 39 geographically focused reference articles. Records may describe an ingredient, a tea family, a blend, a growing region, or a customary drink. A region here identifies the subject of the article, not always a plant's native range.

Plant identity

The name of a plant is included only where support is explicit. Multiple products can be made from the same species; many herbal drinks are not Camellia sinensis.

Processing families

The six ISO families apply to true tea. A regional name, cultivar, added ingredient or purple-leaf colour is not a seventh family. Individual styles require further verification.

Culture and preparation

Named drinks can differ by water temperature, milk, salt, spices or customs even when they share a botanical ingredient. Follow the linked article for full references.

Primary classification: ISO 20715:2023 · Plant taxonomy: Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. See also ONGTEH editorial standards.

Botanical review: The original 43 B9 botanical notes remain. All 100 previously unreviewed records now carry limited-scope field-review notes: source-checked tea-plant bases, selected documented styles and contexts, or explicit unresolved issues. Thirteen additional common botanical names or blends have taxonomic ambiguity notes. None of this certifies 143 products or completes cultivar, regional and claim-level verification.

Open any entry for its article or Atlas profile. Botanical names and caffeine labels are deliberately limited when identification or preparation varies.

Botanical example taxa never authenticate a particular product, photograph, cultivar or clinical claim. Processing categories and caffeine guidance require separate evidence.
